Cairoli and Herlings sweep Loket
The 2012 FIM MX1 and MX2 Motocross World Championship Series went to Loket for the Grand Prix of Czech Replublic. In the MX1 Class, it was the red plate holder, Antonio Cairoli, scoring the fiftieth GP win of his career, moving him to third overall on the all-time career win list and stretching his points lead in the 2012 MX1 World Championship series to thirty points over Clement Desalle. Cairoli won the GP with his fifth 1-1 sweep of the 2012 season. He was joined on the podium by Christophe Pourcel—who went 2-3 on the day—in second and Clement Desalle, who went 4-2 for third overall.
In the MX2 class, it was Jeffrey Herlings also scoring his fifth perfect 1-1 sweep of the year and stretching his MX2 World Championship points lead to fifty-seven over Tommy Searle. Jeffrey came into Loket with question marks after his car accident in Russia, but the Dutchman answered all questions with two very convincing moto wins.
In moto one, he got out front early and easily bested Searle by more than twenty seconds. In moto two, though, he had to fight for the win. Early in the race, he and Searle had a fierce battle that put Jeffrey on the ground and gave Jeremy vanHorebeek—who had a mechanical DNF in moto 1—a nice lead. The #84 re-mounted, chased down both Searle and vanHorebeek and checked out for his second win of the day. At the end of the day, it was Herlings on top, Searle in second with a 2-3 score and American Zach Osborne in third landing his first podium of the year with a 4-4 score.
