The Sandmen Dominate Lierop

On Sunday, the 2012 FIM Motocross World Championship series went to the town of Lierop in the Netherlands for the Grand Prix of Benelux. In MX1, it was all about the Red Bull/KTM of Antonio Cairoli. The Championship points leader got to the front in both motos and cruised to another dominating 1-1 on the day. He was flanked on the podium by his teammate Ken deDycker in second and the Rockstar/Suzuki of Tanel Leok in third.

In MX2, the class was absolutely decimated by the local Dutch sandman Jeffrey Herlings. In both motos, Herlings not only won, but did so by over two minutes. Incredibly, he lapped up to third in moto one and up to fifth in moto two. The only rider to stay on the lead lap in both motos was Herlings' Red Bull/KTM teammate Jeremy vanHorebeek, who went 2-2 on the day. Both Max Anstie, who went 3-3 on the day for his first-ever MX2 podium, and Tommy Searle, who went 4-4, were only able to avoid getting lapped in moto two.

Both motos from Herlings were equally as impressive and have raised a shit storm of talk about who—on this planet—can possibly hang with Herlings in the sand of Lommel at the 2012 Motocross of Nations. In my opinion, there is nobody that can stop this kid in the sand.
