Reed to Return Down Under?
I got an email a couple of weeks ago telling me that Chad Reed had committed to rounds two, three and four of the upcoming Australian Supercross series and I'd see a PR coming out soon. I got a hold of Chad to ask about it but he indicated that it wasn't true and that the promoters of the series weren't that excited to have him down there. I took this to mean that they couldn't meet his asking price of coming down there and racing. A rider like Chad Reed can garner in 100K for an off-season sx race all day long, no quesitons asked.
The Australian SX series has had a rocky existence coming out with a bang a few years ago and then slowly tapering off as the fans stayed home, the big-name riders went away and at one point, Reed (who had raced a few rounds over the years) was fairly critical of the series which caused the promoter to actually issue a press release refuting Reed's claims.
But then the series was sold, a new schedule was announced and it seems that the series is trying to get itself back up on its feet. For more on the series itself check out the series site HERE
Now smashcut to Reed possbily racing back in his native land. He can't make the first round due to the Monster Energy Cup but the rest of the series is open for the 22 and it seems that, despite that communication with me, he's open to going back down. In fact there's a Facebook challenge to get 10K "Likes" to show that the fans want to see Reed back down under racing his Honda. And Chad and his wife Ellie (a couple of people who have grasped the social media outlet Twitter like no other) have also been promoting this FB contest to try and get some momentum behind them going back home. HERE'S the Facebook link.
So from an email saying that he'd be racing to him acknowledging to me that him and the promoters have indeed talked about him racing to now the Facebook compaign to bring him back- it seems that a deal between Reed and the Aussie SX guys is indeed in the air and available to be made.
But as usual with these things, it's going to come down to the dollars and cents. And I'm betting that we see them align at some point.
